MEDICINE FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE NEW YEAR Sponsored by Feeding America

Friday, January 6, 2023 12:pm – 1pm Central Time:  Medicine for the People in the New Year

Felicia Cocotzin Ruiz (Tewa/Xicana) is an author, traditional healer (Curandera), and natural foods chef working over twenty-five years sharing Indigenous Knowledge and complimentary wellness tools, in efforts to educate and support her community back to overall health. Partnering with tribal communities, non-profits, top-wellness resorts, universities, corporations, grassroot collectives, and local and state agencies, Felicia has provided medicine making workshops, native food presentations, mentorships, and classes on self-care, as well as participating on numerous food sovereignty panels in efforts of supporting those on their journey to well-being.

Session Description:  Medicinal aguas frescas (refreshing waters) are easy to make and delicious for the whole family! Join author and curandera Felicia Cocotzin Ruiz for an informative class on how to make two medicine-water recipes from her book, Earth Medicines: Ancestral Wisdom, Healing Recipes, and Wellness Rituals from a Curandera. In this virtual class, Felicia will demonstrate how to prepare fresh aloe vera, discuss anti-inflammatory ingredients, and share on how curanderismo is the medicine of the people. Begin your new year with recipes for healing and wellness!  WHAT IS A CURANDERA? Curanderas are traditional healers, who carry knowledge of foods, herbs, and other cultural remedies working with the body, mind, and spirit. In curanderismo, it is believed that disease can be caused by psychological, physical, and spiritual factors, creating disharmony of the body, mind, or soul. Curanderas help bring people out of that diseased state and back into harmony with various remedies and little rituals.

The first 70 participants who attend the webinar will receive a free signed copy of Felicia’s book:  Earth Medicines: Ancestral Wisdom, Healing Recipes, and Wellness Rituals from a Curandera
