Preparing fire cider is part of our family's annual ritual to welcome cooler weather. Start your tonic now so it is ready by the time our cold weather arrives. This fiery concoction, made with plenty of garlic, onions, horseradish, ginger and hot peppers serves as an immune tonic, decongestant, and warming circulatory stimulant (I also use it as a headache remedy). You can take a spoonful every day to boost your immune system or step it up with a tablespoon at the first sign of a cold.
Fire cider is a traditional herbal remedy first concocted by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar in the kitchen at the California School in the early 1980’s. Much has been in the herbal news these days about a certain herbal company in legal proceedings to "trademark" her recipe, and not allow others to use the words "Fire Cider". This is your opportunity to learn how to prepare Rosemary's original remedy by practicing community herbalism and showing them that this medicine is for the people.
